Tim Plum is a chicago director/producer of film and video specializing in directing natural performances and playful, dramatic storytelling.
Timothy Plum is the founder of Plum, one of Chicago's leading film, video and digital production companies.
Tim Plum started his career as an actor and while still in college, he was an Illinois state champion speaker in Reader's Theater. As a member of the Illinois State University forensic team, he was a national finalist in Poetry Reading.
He studied theater and acting at the Goodman School of Drama at DePaul University, where he was one of the first students ever selected into the school's transfer program.
Later, he also studied improvisational performance at Victory Gardens Theater and The Second City Training Center, where he was double-enrolled for two years.
As an actor, Tim Plum appeared in a variety of off-loop plays, commercials, industrial films, and on America’s Most Wanted, where he played a killer.
Tim Plum developed an interest in the art of filmmaking, leading to a two-year study of writing & directing at Columbia College. One of his films was selected for the annual student showcase and he had the starring role in a 50 minute film shot by Janusz Kaminski who later won two Academy Awards for cinematography.
Before founding Plum, he worked behind the camera on hundreds of commercials and industrial programs in a variety of positions, including camera, gaffer, grip, audio, producer’s assistant, and casting.
He worked on four feature films in various roles, including; propmaster’s assistant for About Last Night; location manager for After Life With Father; office production assistant for Betrayed; and extras coordinator for Rent-A-Cop.
In 1997 he founded his production company, Plum - www.plum.tv - and since has produced and directed over 80 programs for major corporations and respected non-profit institutions.
As Director, his clients include: Adler Planetarium, American Invsco, Baxter Pharmaceuticals, Chicago Academy of Sciences, Discovery Communications, City of Chicago, Cook County, Easter Seal Society, Edwards Hospital, Museum of Science & Industry, Navistar International Trucks, palmOne Computers, Pfizer Pharmaceuticals, Philip Morris International, SBC, Truman College, and many others.
